Hirsch published a very interesting article in PNAS. The full text is available from here.

I went through my publication list and used the scopus database to calculate my citation performance. The values are most likely lower compared to the calculations in the paper by Hirsch, as he is using the ISI database and my calculations are based on the SCOPUS database.

Here are my values: (8th of april 2006)
Total number of citations 9002, h factor=46, m=1.84

UPDATE Total Articles in Publication List: 149
Articles With Citation Data: 144
Sum of the Times Cited: 14055
Average Citations per Article: 97.60
h-index: 55
Last Updated: 05/08/2010 15:14

P.S. I am not a Highly Cited Scientists.
This may have several reasons. 1) I am not reaching the threshold.
2) ISI is unable to deal with common names, specially with names containing "Umlaute".
3) There are many scientists with my name.
I did write an email with my publication list to ISI to calculate, but no answer yet. I most likely never know the answer as the database used by ISI is not easily accessible from the outside.
By the way, in the scopus database you can find my publications using the following search string:
(AU-ID("Müller, Werner J P" 7404301961) OR AU-ID("[No Author ID found]" 7404302537) OR AU-ID("[No Author ID found]" 7404303183) OR AU-ID("Müller, Werner" 11839899000) OR AU-ID("Müller, Werner" 13004844500) OR AU-ID("[No Author ID found]" 8079545700) OR AU-ID("Müller, Werner" 8362197500) OR AU-ID("Müller, Werner" 8626880300)) OR (AU-ID("[No Author ID found]" 7404303104)).

P.S.S. GOPUBMET promised me to make it better. And they almost did it. In their database I am "Müller W/9276706" and "Müller W/15233658", the latter covering most but not all publications including at least one where I am not an author on. At least a very good try. Best database sofar.
P.S.S.S. Google Scholar is the Winner ! Here you can see the result: Google Scholar Author Profile: Werner Muller
